It’s been said, “there are pockets of the east side of this hilly city where sleek little Italian imports cruise the streets”. These non motorized Italian imports are called European Wall Lizards. They sunbathe on the sidewalks and nestle in the rocky walls of our eastside neighborhoods and beyond.
In 1951, George Rau, a young member of the Lazarus family, was on vacation near Milan, Italy, where he adopted a handful of local lizards. When he returned, the boy smuggled the reptiles back to his family’s home.
Little did the boy know that the street where he let them go was a perfect fit for the species, which became locally as the Lazarus Lizards. The street, Torrence Court in O’Bryonville , will forever be known as Lizard Hill.
The reptile’s population have grown from a few to tens of thousands occupying walls across the eastside of Cincinnati and beyond.
We believed it very fitting to name our race after our little Italian neighbors!
Jammin Lizard Events, LTD.
Is a 501c3 non for profit established in 2015 to develop and present quality community pedestrian (Run, bike, swim) races. Our proceeds will go to partner not for profit organizations like The Shield and The Cure Starts Now.
The Shield’smission is to provide emergency funds and resources to the families of officers in southwest Ohio who are critically injured or killed in the line of duty.
An officer had been killed in the line of duty, and his family had no means of producing the funds needed to cover their expenses – travel, lodging, and the added expense of missing work.
Our goal is to always be able to provide as much money and support for the families as they need as soon as they need it.
